Today, Congresswoman Kay Granger (TX-12) released the following statement after H. J. RES. 2, proposing a balanced budget amendment to the constitution, failed in the U.S. House of Representatives:

“We have to get serious about changing the way money is spent in Washington. I have voted for a Balanced Budget Amendment in the past and was proud to support it again today.  Unfortunately, the Balanced Budget Amendment failed to get the two-thirds majority vote needed for passage. Even though it did not pass today, that doesn’t mean I will give up on the fight to control wasteful spending. I will continue working with my colleagues to get our country’s debt under control without raising taxes.
