Congresswoman Kay Granger (TX-12) today supported a package of legislation that includes the following: assistance for the families of the victims of this week's tragic events, measures to help families of fallen public safety officers, and initiatives to promote patriotism in the wake of the terrorism waged on our nation.

"This week has been devastating to our nation. Congress is assisting victims' families by passing legislation that will suspend taxes on FEMA assistance payments and compensation by airlines. We have provided relief from the estate tax to families of victims who lost their lives. And we have given estate tax relief to the families of military men and women who may die during combat service to our nation," said Granger.

"Public safety officers have been heroic figures throughout this tragedy. Congress has voted to provide generous compensation to the families of officers killed in the line of duty. And we will help disabled officers by granting them monetary compensation. These are courageous Americans who have saved lives and deserve the very best from us," Granger continued.

In addition to these financial initiatives, a resolution encouraging Americans to demonstrate their unity for the nation by flying the American flag at homes, businesses, schools and places of worship for the next thirty days was passed.

"Faceless terrorists may have committed their acts of violence Tuesday, but they will not destroy our nation. We will remain strong. I hope that the good people of the 12th District of Texas, as well as all Americans, will fly a flag and show their patriotism and love of their country," Granger said.
